The ISCAR 5508103 is a DCMT-style solid carbide turning insert designed for precision external turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. It carries the IC8250 manufacturer grade with a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which provides wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and interrupted cuts. The insert has a 55-degree diamond shape, a positive rake geometry, and an SM chip breaker configuration. Insert length is 11.6 mm (0.4567 inches), the inscribed circle measures 3/8 inches (0.3748 inches), and the corner radius is 1/32 inches (0.0315 inches). It is held by screw clamping and belongs to the ISCAR Isoturn series.
This insert is engineered for turning stainless steel and carbon or alloy steel workpieces, covering ISO material groups M and P. It is suited for medium-finish to semi-roughing passes with a maximum depth of cut of 3.00 mm (0.1181 inches). Typical installations include external turning toolholders configured for DCMT insert geometry in shop environments ranging from production turning cells to job shop lathes. The SM chip breaker promotes reliable chip control when cutting ductile materials such as austenitic stainless steel.
Designed for use in DCMT-style screw-clamp turning toolholders within the ISCAR Isoturn series. Primary workpiece materials are stainless steel (ISO group M) and steel (ISO group P).
Insert replacement and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine powered off, spindle locked, and all stored energy released per shop lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to seat and torque the clamping screw; refer to the toolholder manufacturer specification for the correct fastener torque value. Inspect the insert pocket and screw threads for debris or damage before seating a new insert. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut rating for this insert geometry.
