The ISCAR 5508100 is a DCMT-style indexable turning insert in the Isoturn series, designed for precision external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a solid carbide substrate coated with TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN applied via a PVD process, making it well-suited for steel and stainless-steel workpiece materials. The 55-degree diamond shape delivers a positive rake angle and a 7-degree clearance (C), enabling clean entry geometry and reduced cutting forces. The IC8250 grade is engineered for general-purpose turning where edge toughness and wear resistance are both priorities. This insert is installed and indexed by a screw-holding method, which suits DCMT-compatible toolholders commonly found in production turning environments.
The 5508100 is used in turning applications on ISO material groups P (steel) and M (stainless steel) in both light and medium stock-removal passes. With a maximum depth of cut of 0.0984 inches (2.50 mm), it is best matched to finishing and semi-finishing operations. The SM chip breaker geometry helps manage chip control across these material types. The Isoturn series is a standard ISCAR product family intended for precision turning in high-volume production and job-shop environments alike. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in metalworking and precision machining are the primary users of this insert.
Designed for use in DCMT-compatible screw-on turning toolholders. Primary workpiece materials are ISO group P (steel) and group M (stainless steel), with M listed as a secondary material. Specific toolholder compatibility should be verified against ISCAR Isoturn series toolholder specifications for the DCMT30 insert size.
Installation is performed by CNC machinists or tooling technicians using the screw-clamping method standard to DCMT pocket toolholders. Power down and de-energize the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the clamping screw — do not overtighten. Handle carbide inserts with care, as edges are brittle and susceptible to chipping if dropped or impacted.
