The ISCAR 5508002 is a CNMG 643-NR indexable turning insert designed for precision metal cutting on CNC and manual lathes. Built from solid carbide and finished with a CVD-applied TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN multilayer coating under the manufacturer grade IC8350, this insert is engineered for high-wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and interrupted turning operations. The diamond-shaped (80-degree included angle) insert measures 0.76 inches in length with a 0.75-inch inscribed circle and a 0.047-inch corner radius. It belongs to ISCAR's Isoturn series and is held in place by a clamp and pin method. Machinists and tooling specialists working in production environments will find this insert well-suited to demanding finishing and semi-finishing passes.
This insert is intended for turning stainless steel (ISO material code M) and steel (ISO material code P), making it a practical choice for both job shops and high-volume production facilities. The NR chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip formation across a range of feed rates and depths. Maximum depth of cut is 8.00 mm (0.315 inches). Typical applications include OD turning, facing, and profiling on lathes equipped with CNMG-style toolholders. Designed as an OEM-style replacement turning insert for CNMG 643 toolholders accepting an 80-degree diamond insert with a 0.75-inch inscribed circle. Suitable for use in standard CNMG-style toolholder pockets with clamp and pin retention. Primary workpiece materials are stainless steel and steel per ISO material codes M and P.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the insert — do not overtighten the clamp screw by hand. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces for chips or wear before installing a new insert to ensure proper seating and runout.
