This insert carries manufacturer grade IC08, an uncoated bright finish suited to cutting non-ferrous metals where sharp edges and low friction are critical. It features a square shape with a 60-degree included angle, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a 0.0315-inch corner radius. The DT chipbreaker geometry promotes positive rake cutting action, reducing cutting forces and improving chip evacuation in aluminum, copper, brass, and similar non-ferrous workpiece materials.
This insert is intended for machining operations where non-ferrous metals are the primary workpiece material, classified under material code N. The positive rake geometry and bright uncoated surface make it well suited for applications where built-up edge is a concern, such as high-speed drilling of aluminum alloy components in aerospace, automotive, and general precision machining environments. Indexable inserts are installed by qualified machinists following the drill body manufacturer torque and clamping specifications. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool is secured in a vise or fixture before seating or indexing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket for debris, damage, or wear before installing a new insert, as a damaged seat will compromise edge repeatability and part accuracy.
