The ISCAR 5507916 is a CNMX-style solid carbide turning insert designed for high-productivity external turning operations. Carrying the IC8350 manufacturer grade, this insert features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN that delivers wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The 80-degree diamond shape (Insert Shape Code C) provides a strong nose geometry suitable for general turning and profiling. It includes a wiper edge for improved surface finish at standard feed rates. With a positive rake and M4PW chip breaker geometry, it is engineered to control chip flow across a range of material removal conditions. Machinists and CNC turning operators working in job shop or production environments are the primary users.
This insert is intended for turning stainless steel and steel workpieces, corresponding to ISO material codes M and P. It fits applications where consistent edge life and chip control are critical, such as shaft turning, facing, and contour work on CNC lathes and turning centers. The Heliturn LD series designation indicates compatibility with ISCAR toolholders designed for that insert family. Maximum depth of cut is 6.00 mm (0.2362 inches), making it suitable for medium to semi-finishing passes.
Designed for use in ISCAR Heliturn LD series toolholders that accept CNMX insert style with Tolerance Code M and Clearance Code N. Compatible with setups requiring clamp and pin insert holding. Intended for stainless steel and steel workpiece materials (ISO codes M and P).
This insert is installed and replaced by a machinist or CNC toolroom technician. Before changing inserts, power down and lock out the machine spindle per shop lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to torque the clamp or pin to the holder's stated value. Inspect the pocket seating surface and shim for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper location and avoid premature edge failure.
