The ISCAR 5507898 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill insert in the ICP series, designed for high-performance drilling in demanding machining environments. Carrying the IC908 manufacturer grade with a submicron carbide substrate and a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted or continuous cutting operations. The 140-degree included drill point angle with web thinning reduces thrust force and improves chip evacuation at entry. At 8mm insert seat size and 0.315 inches cutting diameter, it fits standard ICP-body drill holders and is typically installed by CNC machinists and toolroom technicians working in production or job-shop settings.
This replaceable tip is suited for drilling operations in steel as its primary workpiece material. It also performs in stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials, making it a versatile option across multiple material grades. The slow spiral flute design and honed cutting edge geometry classified as insert geometry P provide controlled chip flow and edge stability. The twist-style insert holding method ensures repeatable seating in compatible ICP-series drill bodies. Typical applications include through-hole and blind-hole drilling on CNC machining centers and turning centers.
Designed for use with ISCAR ICP-series replaceable tip drill bodies sized for an 8mm insert seat (ISO Number ICP 080). Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials per the ISO material codes P, M, K, S, and H.
Installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out per applicable safety procedures. Use the correct ISCAR torque key or installation tool specified for the ICP insert seat to ensure proper seating and clamping without damaging the carbide tip. Inspect the insert pocket for chips, debris, or wear before seating the new insert. Do not force the insert if resistance is felt during twist-lock engagement, as this may indicate a damaged pocket or misalignment.
