The ISCAR 5507877 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert with SOMT style geometry, designed for use in indexable insert drills across a wide range of metalcutting applications. This insert carries the IC808 manufacturer grade with a PVD coating process, offering wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted and continuous cutting. The square insert shape measures 0.5 inches in length and 0.5 inches in width, with a thickness of 0.187 inches and a corner radius of 0.031 inches. The DT chipbreaker geometry supports chip control in demanding drilling conditions. Installation is performed by machinists and toolroom technicians on CNC and manual drilling setups.
This insert is part of the DR-TWIST series and is rated for universal primary workpiece material compatibility, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S. Typical applications include production drilling in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, nonferrous alloys, and superalloys. The IC808 grade and PVD coating make it well suited for general-purpose and high-productivity drilling where consistent hole quality and insert life are required. It is used in horizontal and vertical machining centers, as well as dedicated drill presses, wherever the corresponding DR-TWIST insert drill body is employed.
Designed for use with DR-TWIST series indexable drill bodies that accept SOMT12 style inserts with insert size code 12. Confirm insert pocket geometry and seating dimensions against the specific drill body before installation.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the drill body manufacturer to seat and torque the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket for chips, wear, or damage before seating the new insert. Do not overtighten the clamping screw, as this can crack the carbide substrate.
