The ISCAR 5507678 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. Carrying the ANSI designation TNMG431 and ISO designation TNMG220404, this insert features a triangular 60-degree geometry with a negative side clearance and a 0.0157 inch corner radius. The CVD-applied multilayer coating stack — TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN — delivers a hardwearing outer surface suited for steel and cast iron cutting. Chip breaker style TF supports both roughing and medium machining passes. The insert is held by clamp or pin and is part of ISCAR's Isoturn series, a standard platform for external turning toolholders common in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is intended for use on steel (P-grade workpieces) and cast iron (K-grade workpieces). The IC9150 grade is characterized by high wear resistance against steel and high wear resistance against cast iron. Maximum depth of cut reaches 3.50 mm (0.1378 inches), making it appropriate for moderate to aggressive passes on turned components. It fits toolholders that accept the TNMG431 insert seat, common in both production turning cells and maintenance-oriented repair shops where dimensional accuracy on cast and steel parts is required. Typical installers are CNC machinists and manual lathe operators working to close tolerances.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for TNMG431-seat toolholders in the ISCAR Isoturn series. Fits standard external turning toolholders accepting TNMG431 inserts with negative clearance geometry. Material grade ratings C3, C4, C6, C7, and C8 apply.
Turning insert replacement is performed by a qualified machinist with the machine in an e-stop or powered-down state and the spindle locked. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the clamp or pin securely before resuming cuts. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut for the grade and chip breaker combination in use. Follow your shop's tooling change procedure and applicable OSHA machine guarding requirements when servicing live tooling stations.
