The ISCAR 5507648 is a solid carbide turning insert designated ANSI code TPMT322 and ISO code TPMT160308, manufactured in the IC9150 grade. It carries a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which delivers high wear resistance against steel and cast iron workpiece materials. The insert features a 60-degree triangular shape with a positive rake and positive side clearance, a 0.3750-inch inscribed circle, and a 0.0313-inch corner radius. Insert length is 16.50 mm (0.6496 inches) and thickness is 0.1250 inches. It is part of the Isoturn series and is designed for finishing operations. Weight is 0.11 pounds per piece.
This insert is suited for finishing passes on steel and cast iron in both CNC turning centers and manual lathes where controlled depth of cut and consistent surface finish are priorities. The IC9150 grade is characterized as high wear-resistance to moderate wear-resistance with toughness for steel (P workpiece material code) and high wear-resistance for cast iron (K workpiece material code). Maximum depth of cut is 12.00 mm (0.4724 inches). The chip breaker designation is T, optimized for finishing chip control. The insert is held by screw-clamp method and conforms to ISO 13399 standards for tool data representation.
Designed for use in screw-clamp TPMT-style toolholders from the ISCAR Isoturn series. Compatible with turning applications targeting primary workpiece material codes P (steel) and K (cast iron) per ISO classification.
This insert is installed and replaced by a qualified machinist or CNC toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully in the pocket and torque the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification using a calibrated torque driver. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or wear before seating a new insert, as debris under the insert will affect runout and surface finish.
