The ISCAR 5507351 is a VCMT 220-SM turning insert manufactured from submicron solid carbide and coated with TiN and TiAlN via a PVD process. Carrying the IC907 manufacturer grade, it is designed for high wear resistance across steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and aluminum and non-ferrous materials. The 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape provides a sharp, positive rake geometry with a positive side clearance, making it well suited for finishing and medium machining operations. The insert measures 0.437 inches in length with a 0.25-inch inscribed circle and a 0.008-inch corner radius. A screw-hole mount with a 0.114-inch hole diameter holds it securely in compatible toolholders.
This insert belongs to ISCAR's Isoturn series and is intended for use in external turning and boring applications. Its universal primary workpiece material rating (ISO material codes P, M, K, N, S) makes it appropriate for a wide range of CNC lathe work in production machining and job-shop environments. The SM chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and medium machining passes where consistent chip control and surface finish quality are the priority. Machinists and CNC operators working with steel and stainless steel components will find the IC907 grade's wear resistance particularly effective at moderate to higher cutting speeds. Sold in multiples of 10.
Designed for use in VCMT-style screw-clamp toolholders accepting a 35-degree diamond insert with a 0.25-inch inscribed circle and ANSI size code 220 (ISO size code 110301). Compatible with toolholders designed for the Isoturn series insert geometry.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque driver for the clamping screw to avoid cracking the carbide or stripping the seat — follow the toolholder manufacturer's screw torque specification. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the insert, as contamination will affect runout and tool life.
