The ISCAR 5507285 is a CNMG431 TF geometry turning insert in the IC9250 grade, designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This solid carbide insert features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which delivers a hard wear-resistant surface with a tough substrate underneath. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape provides two usable cutting edges per face. With a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, a 3/16-inch thickness, and a 1/64-inch corner radius, this insert suits medium to roughing depth-of-cut applications up to 4.00 mm. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in standard CNMG-style toolholders using clamp or pin retention.
The TF chip breaker geometry on the ISCAR 5507285 is optimized for roughing and medium machining passes. The IC9250 grade targets steel (P), stainless steel (M), and hardened materials (H), offering a range from high wear-resistance to high toughness depending on cutting conditions. It is well suited for production turning environments where consistent chip control and extended tool life across varying feed rates and depths of cut are required. The negative side clearance and positive rake design balance cutting force and edge stability in demanding turning applications.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-fit insert for CNMG431 toolholders using clamp or pin retention. ANSI insert code CNMG431; ISO insert code CNMG120404. Material grade classifications C5, C6, and C7.
This insert is installed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamp hardware for the toolholder; do not over-tighten the clamp screw or pin, as this can fracture the carbide. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper support and prevent premature edge failure.
