The ISCAR 5507005 is a solid carbide turning insert in the SCMT style, designed for precision metal-turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. Grade IC9250 features a CVD-applied multilayer coating — TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN — delivering wear resistance and thermal stability across demanding cutting applications. The insert carries a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 1/64-inch corner radius, and a positive rake geometry with the SM chip breaker, which promotes controlled chip formation and reduced cutting forces. It is held in the toolholder by a screw-clamping method. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and CNC operators install and index these inserts as part of routine tooling maintenance.
This insert is suited for turning stainless steel and carbon or alloy steel workpieces in both roughing and finishing passes. The SM chip breaker geometry is optimized for medium-depth cuts up to 0.1181 inches (3.00 mm), making it appropriate for ISO material groups M (stainless steel) and P (steel). Typical applications include shaft turning, facing, and profiling on production machine tools in job shop and manufacturing environments. The Isoturn series provides a broad range of compatible toolholders for SCMT-style inserts.
Designed for use with SCMT-style screw-clamp turning toolholders in the ISCAR Isoturn series. Suitable for ISO workpiece material groups M (stainless steel) and P (carbon and alloy steel).
Indexable turning inserts are installed and replaced by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Before indexing or replacing an insert, ensure the machine is fully stopped, the spindle is locked, and all guards are in place. Use the correct Torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's specified seating torque to avoid cracking the insert or damaging the pocket. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
