The ISCAR 5506974 is a CNMG 432-GN indexable turning insert from the Isoturn series, manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied TiCN and Al2O3 multilayer coating. The insert follows an 80-degree diamond shape (Shape Code C) with a 0-degree relief angle (Clearance Code N) and Tolerance Code M. At 0.508 inches in length and 0.187 inches thick, with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and a 0.031-inch corner radius, this insert is engineered for precision turning applications on steel and stainless steel workpieces. It is held by clamp and pin and is suitable for both external turning and boring operations.
This insert is designed for use in CNC lathes and turning centers where consistent performance on steel (ISO Code P) and stainless steel (ISO Code M) is required. The GN chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation during roughing and semi-finishing passes. With a maximum depth of cut of 0.177 inches (4.5 mm), it fits residential and commercial machine shop environments as well as production turning cells. Machinists and CNC operators working with ISO-standard toolholders will find this insert compatible with standard CNMG-style pockets.

Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician; power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully into the toolholder pocket and torque the clamp screw according to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the pocket seat and shim for debris or damage before installing a fresh insert edge. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine manufacturer guidelines when setting tool offsets after an insert change.
