The ISCAR 5506860 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill insert designed for precision drilling operations in demanding machining environments. Carrying the IC908 manufacturer grade with a submicron carbide substrate, this insert is PVD-coated with a TiAlN finish that provides excellent thermal resistance and extended tool life. The insert features a 140-degree included angle with a thinned drill point and slow spiral flutes, delivering reduced thrust forces and improved chip evacuation. At 0.457 inches cutting diameter and 0.133 inches functional length, it is engineered for use in IDI-SK series drill bodies and conforms to ISO 13399 standards. Installation requires no through-coolant supply on the insert side.
This replaceable tip drill insert is suited for applications in ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials. Primary workpiece material is cast iron (ISO K classification), with secondary capability covering steel, stainless steel, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials (ISO P, M, S, and H classifications). The corner chamfer geometry and web-thinned point make it well-suited for high-precision drilling in production machining, mold and die, and general metalworking environments. It is used by machinists and tooling specialists operating CNC machining centers where repeatable hole quality and fast insert changeover are priorities.
Designed for use with ISCAR IDI-SK series replaceable tip drill bodies, insert seat size 11, ISO number IDI 116-SK. Confirm body seat size and series designation before ordering to ensure proper seating and runout performance.
This insert is installed and removed by a licensed machinist or qualified tooling technician. Disengage all machine power and confirm spindle arrest before handling any cutting insert. Use the manufacturer-specified torx or hex key for the twist-lock seating mechanism to ensure full insert contact without over-torquing the seat. Inspect the insert pocket and locating surfaces for chips or wear before each insert change to maintain positional accuracy.
