The ISCAR 5506496 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert carrying the SOMX06DT geometry and IC908 manufacturer grade. It is designed for use in indexable drill bodies of the DR-TWIST series, where it seats at the insert pocket and does the primary cutting work during deep-hole and general drilling operations. The insert features a square shape with a 90-degree included angle, a 6.20 mm (0.2441 inches) inscribed circle, a 0.40 mm (0.0157 inches) corner radius, and a PVD coating applied over the solid carbide substrate. The DT chipbreaker designation indicates a geometry engineered to control chip formation and evacuation during drilling. Licensed machinists, CNC operators, and tool-room technicians are the typical end users for this insert.
This insert is suited for a broad range of workpiece materials. The IC908 grade and PVD coating make it applicable across universal material categories, including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, and nonferrous materials, as reflected by the ISO workpiece material codes P, M, K, S, and H. The DR-TWIST series application covers both through-hole and blind-hole drilling operations on machining centers and CNC turning centers where indexable drill bodies accept the SOMX insert style. It is appropriate for production environments where consistent insert indexing and repeatable hole quality are required.
Designed for use in ISCAR DR-TWIST series indexable drill bodies that accept the SOMX insert style with insert size code 06. Refer to the DR-TWIST tool body documentation to confirm pocket geometry and seating requirements before installation.
Indexable drill inserts are installed by licensed machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Before indexing or replacing inserts, confirm that the machine spindle is stopped, the tool is secured in a safe position, and all power is isolated per shop lockout/tagout procedures. Use the correct torque driver or insert key specified by the drill body manufacturer for the clamping screw — do not substitute with general-purpose tools that could damage the pocket or the insert seating face. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
