The ISCAR 5506483 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VCMT style, designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC and conventional lathes. The insert carries an IC908 grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, which delivers high wear resistance and thermal stability across a broad range of cutting speeds. The 35-degree diamond shape (Shape Code V) provides a sharp, acute cutting geometry suited to profiling and finish turning. At 11.1 mm in length with a 1/4-inch inscribed circle, this insert fits standard VCMT toolholders and is held in place by a screw-clamp method. The SM chip breaker geometry promotes positive rake cutting and effective chip control during light-to-medium passes.
This insert is suited for turning operations on a wide range of workpiece materials. The IC908 grade with TiAlN coating is rated for use on steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), heat-resistant superalloys (S), and hardened materials (H). It is appropriate for both production shop environments and maintenance-repair turning work where dimensional accuracy and surface finish are critical. The Isoturn series designation indicates compatibility with ISCAR Isoturn toolholder systems. Each unit is packaged individually; a minimum order quantity of 10 pieces applies.
Designed for use with VCMT-style screw-clamp turning toolholders in the ISCAR Isoturn series. Compatible with workpiece material ISO groups H, K, M, P, and S as specified by the manufacturer. Conforms to ISO 13399 insert standards.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key driver to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification - do not overtighten, as this can crack the carbide. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new insert.
