The ISCAR 5506280 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CCMT style, designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This insert carries the IC907 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN dual coating, which supports thermal resistance and extended tool life across a wide range of workpiece materials. The diamond-shaped insert body features an 80-degree included angle and a positive rake geometry, reducing cutting forces on the workpiece. A wiper edge (WG chip breaker) is integrated into the cutting face to improve surface finish at higher feed rates. This insert is part of the ISCAR Isoturn series and is installed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians.
This insert is suited for turning applications across multiple material groups, including steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), non-ferrous materials (N), hardened materials (H), and superalloys (S), as identified by ISO primary workpiece material codes. It is a practical choice for production turning environments where consistent chip control and surface finish are required. The screw-holding method provides secure clamping in compatible CCMT toolholders. Typical applications include finish and semi-finish turning passes where wiper geometry delivers improved surface quality without reducing feed rate.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for CCMT2-1WG style inserts in screw-clamped CCMT toolholders. Specific toolholder compatibility should be verified against ISCAR Isoturn series toolholder specifications before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and screw driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the clamping screw - refer to the toolholder documentation for fastener specifications. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and runout.
