The ISCAR 5505848 is a DNMG432-VL grade IC908 solid carbide turning insert designed for external and internal turning operations across a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert features a PVD-applied TiN and TiAlN multilayer coating over a submicron carbide substrate, delivering a balance of wear resistance and toughness suited for steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and special or super alloys. The 55-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape provides a strong, versatile cutting geometry. With a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and a 0.031-inch corner radius, it handles roughing and medium machining passes with a maximum depth of cut of 0.138 inches (3.51 mm). Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators working in production or job-shop environments are the primary users.
This insert is part of the ISCAR Isoturn series and is engineered for universal workpiece material applications coded P, M, K, and S — covering carbon and alloy steels, stainless steels, cast irons, and heat-resistant super alloys. The VL chip breaker geometry is optimized for both roughing and medium machining chip loads. The insert also supports boring applications, making it suitable for both OD turning and ID boring tool holders that accept the DNMG insert style. It conforms to ISO 13399 standards and carries the ISO size code 150408.
Designed for use in DNMG-style turning and boring tool holders that accept inserts with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, negative clearance angle, and clamp or pin holding methods. Compatible with tool holders conforming to ANSI insert code DNMG432 and ISO insert code DNMG150408.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp screw specified by the tool holder manufacturer — do not overtighten the clamp, as this can chip the insert edge or damage the pocket. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installation to ensure proper seating and runout control.
