The ISCAR 5505715 is a CCMT 432-SM turning insert designed for precision lathe and turning center operations. It is manufactured from solid carbide with a TiAlN and TiN coating applied via a PVD coating process, delivering a wear-resistant cutting edge suited for interrupted and continuous cuts. The insert measures 12.9 mm in length with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and a 1/32-inch corner radius. The 80-degree diamond shape and positive rake geometry promote efficient chip evacuation. An SM chip breaker is integrated into the geometry to control chip flow across a range of depths of cut up to 0.1378 inches. Licensed HVAC, machinist, and CNC technician personnel install this type of insert in screw-lock toolholders across production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for turning applications across a broad range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, high-temperature alloys, and cast iron, corresponding to ISO material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S. The CCMT style and Isoturn series designation make it a direct fit for compatible screw-lock CCMT toolholders used in both roughing and finishing passes. It is particularly applicable in aerospace, energy, and general machining where consistent surface finish and dimensional accuracy are required on difficult-to-machine alloys.

Insert installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine fully stopped and in a safe, locked-out state. Use the appropriate torx or hex key for the insert clamping screw, following the toolholder manufacturer torque guidance rather than improvising. Inspect the insert pocket and screw threads for damage or debris before seating the insert. Never run a cracked, chipped, or improperly seated insert, as insert failure at speed presents a serious safety hazard.
