The ISCAR 5505576 is a solid carbide boring insert designed for precision turning and boring operations on CNC and manual lathes. Conforming to the TPGX731 insert style, it features a 60-degree triangular shape with a positive rake geometry and an 11-degree relief angle. The insert is PVD-coated with TiAlN for improved wear resistance and thermal stability at elevated cutting speeds. With a 7/32-inch inscribed circle and a 3/32-inch thickness, this insert fits standard TPGX-style boring bars and is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians working across a wide range of workpiece materials.
This insert is suited for universal workpiece material applications, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S. It is part of the ISCAR Isoturn series and carries manufacturer grade IC908, making it appropriate for both light finishing and moderate roughing passes in boring, turning, and profiling operations. The left-hand insert hand designation determines correct tool holder orientation. Typical applications include internal diameter boring, external turning, and contour operations on CNC machining centers and turning centers in production and job-shop environments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for TPGX-style boring bars and turning tool holders accepting a 731 size code insert with a 7/32-inch inscribed circle and 3/32-inch thickness. Compatible with ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S as stated by the manufacturer.
Insert replacement should be performed with the machine powered down and the spindle fully stopped. Use the correct torque wrench and insert-clamping screw specified by the tool holder manufacturer — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Confirm left-hand insert hand matches the tool holder designation before seating the insert. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine-specific lockout/tagout protocols during any tooling change.
