The ISCAR 5505571 is a TCMT-style triangular turning insert designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured from solid carbide and finished with a TiAlN and titanium nitride PVD coating, this insert delivers thermal resistance and wear life across a wide range of workpiece materials. It carries the IC907 manufacturer grade and features a 0.0157 inch (0.40 mm) corner radius with a positive rake geometry. The SM chip breaker promotes controlled chip flow, reducing heat buildup and improving surface finish in medium to light finishing operations. Licensed machinists and CNC turning operators install and index these inserts as part of routine tooling maintenance.
This insert is suited for both roughing and finishing passes on steel, stainless, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, high-temperature alloys, and other materials covered under the universal primary workpiece material classification. The TCMT insert style with 60-degree included angle and 7-degree relief angle makes it applicable to external turning, facing, and light profiling operations in the Isoturn series toolholding system. It is appropriate for both production-floor and job-shop environments running moderate to high cutting speeds.
Designed for use in ISCAR Isoturn series toolholders accepting TCMT-style inserts with a 0.173 inch hole diameter and insert size code 3-1. Confirm toolholder pocket style and clamping system before installation.
TCMT turning inserts are indexed and replaced by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before accessing the turret or toolholder. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's specified clamping procedure — do not overtighten the clamp screw, as this can fracture the insert or damage the pocket seat. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamp for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
