Product Description

The ISCAR 5505315 is the IDI0862SG replaceable tip drill insert from the IDI-SG series, designed for use in modular drilling systems where the carbide tip is exchanged without replacing the full tool body. Built from solid carbide in the IC908 grade with a submicron substrate, this tip features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process and a 140-degree drill point angle with web thinning for improved penetration and chip evacuation. The insert uses a slow spiral, two-flute configuration and seats in a size 21 insert seat. It is sized at 0.862 inches cutting diameter with a functional length of 0.217 inches and an overall projection of 0.366 inches. Installation is performed by qualified machinists and tooling technicians in production or job shop environments.

This replaceable tip drill insert is rated for use across a wide range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials, corresponding to ISO material codes P, M, K, S, and H. The general-purpose SG insert geometry makes this tip well-suited for through-hole and blind-hole drilling operations on CNC machining centers and drill presses where consistent hole quality and tool changeover speed are priorities. The IDI-SG system allows tip replacement at the machine without disturbing the tool body setup.

Key Features

  • Solid carbide IC908 grade with submicron substrate for wear resistance in demanding materials
  • TiAlN coating via PVD process for thermal protection and extended tool life
  • 140-degree drill point angle with web thinning for reduced thrust and cleaner entry
  • Slow spiral, two-flute geometry supports chip control in steel and hard materials
  • Replaceable tip design reduces tooling cost versus full drill body replacement
  • Conforms to ISO 13399 tooling data standards for CAM and tool management integration

Compatibility

Designed for use in ISCAR IDI-SG series modular drill bodies accepting a size 21 insert seat. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials (ISO codes P, M, K, S, H). ISO number reference: IDI 219-SG.

Installation Notes

This insert is installed and removed by a machinist or tooling technician using the appropriate ISCAR torx or clamping key for the IDI-SG seat — consult the tool body documentation for the correct tightening procedure. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before exchanging the tip. Inspect the insert seat and locating surfaces for chips or debris before seating the new tip to ensure accurate positioning and avoid premature wear. Coolant-through is not supported by this insert.
