The ISCAR 5505244 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC lathe and turning center applications. Carrying the ANSI code VNGG2.5-1 and ISO code VNGG12T304, this insert features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a negative side clearance and a positive rake geometry. The IC907 grade combines a submicron carbide substrate with a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN multilayer coating, delivering high wear resistance across a range of workpiece materials. The 1/64-inch corner radius and NF chip breaker geometry are optimized for finishing operations, producing tight tolerances and fine surface finishes on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and other non-ferrous metals.
This insert is suited for finishing passes in both production and job-shop turning environments. The Isoturn series designation positions it for use in negative-style turning toolholders accepting VNGG-geometry inserts. Compatible workpiece material codes include P (steel), M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), N (aluminum and non-ferrous), and S (superalloys), making it a versatile choice for shops that turn a broad mix of materials. It is held by clamp or pin methods depending on the toolholder configuration.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement turning insert for VNGG-geometry negative toolholders in the Isoturn series. Compatible with workpiece material codes P, M, K, N, and S per ISO designation. Refer to the ANSI code VNGG2.5-1 or ISO code VNGG12T304 when cross-referencing toolholder seat specifications.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and manufacturer-specified fastener hardware for the toolholder clamp or pin system — do not overtighten by feel alone. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or wear before installing a new insert to ensure proper seating and tool-life performance.
