The ISCAR 5505181 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill in the IDI-SG series, designed for high-productivity hole-making in demanding machining environments. The drill tip carries an IC908 submicron carbide grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, delivering heat resistance and edge retention across a wide range of workpiece materials. The included angle measures 140 degrees and the cutting diameter is 1 inch, with a functional length of 0.251 inches. The tip uses a web-thinned, slow-spiral flute geometry for controlled chip evacuation and reduced thrust force. This part is installed by machinists and tool-room technicians as a direct replacement tip in compatible IDI-SG series drill bodies.
The 5505181 tip is suited for general-purpose drilling operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials, covering ISO material groups P, M, K, S, and H. It fits applications where a replaceable-tip system is preferred over solid-drill tooling, reducing tooling cost per hole while maintaining consistent geometry. Typical use is in CNC machining centers and drill presses where the IDI-SG body is already in service and the tip requires replacement after wear.
Designed as a replaceable tip for ISCAR IDI-SG series drill bodies with an insert seat size of 25, ISO number IDI 254-SG. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials per ISO groups P, M, K, S, and H.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician. Before tip replacement, ensure the spindle is fully stopped, locked out, and the drill body is secured in a vise or fixture. Use the appropriate ISCAR torque key or wrench specified for IDI-SG seat size 25 bodies to seat the tip; do not use improvised tools that may damage the seating surface. Inspect the pocket and coolant ports for chips or debris before installing the new tip.
