The ISCAR 5505176 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill in the IDI-SG series, designed for high-productivity hole-making in demanding materials. The tip carries an IC908 submicron carbide grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, delivering hardness and heat resistance suited for interrupted cuts and continuous drilling cycles. The drill features a 0.906 inch cutting diameter, a 140-degree included angle with a thinned point, and a slow spiral flute geometry that promotes chip evacuation in tougher alloys. Machining centers and CNC drilling cells in production shops are the primary environment for this tool. The replaceable tip design reduces tooling cost by allowing tip exchange without replacing the full shank body.
This drill is engineered for use on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials, covering ISO material groups P, M, K, S, and H. It is well suited to production environments where a range of workpiece materials passes through the same spindle, reducing the need to swap between dedicated tools. The SG insert geometry and thinned web point reduce thrust force at entry and improve hole quality across these varied substrates. Two spiral flutes support controlled chip flow in both through-hole and blind-hole applications.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement tip for IDI-SG series drill bodies accepting insert seat size 23, per ISO number IDI 230-SG. Specific shank body compatibility should be confirmed against the IDI-SG series body selection guide before ordering.
Installation is performed by machinists or tooling technicians on CNC machining centers or drill presses. The spindle must be stopped and the machine placed in a safe, locked-out state before seating or removing the replaceable tip. Use the manufacturer-specified torque wrench and drive key for the twist-lock holding method to ensure the tip is fully seated without overtightening. Confirm runout with a dial indicator after seating to verify proper tip engagement before initiating a cut.
