The ISCAR 5505157 is a VNMG-style solid carbide turning insert designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes. Manufactured under the Isoturn series, this insert features a 35-degree diamond shape (V-code) with a positive rake geometry and a clearance code of N. The IC907 grade substrate is coated with TiAlN and TiN via a PVD process, providing wear resistance and thermal stability across a broad range of workpiece materials. The corner radius measures 0.008 inches and the inscribed circle diameter is 0.2815 inches (7.15 mm). Chip breaking is handled by the NF chip breaker geometry, which is suited to finishing and near-finish passes.
This insert is intended for use in residential and commercial machining environments where turning of steel, stainless steel, high-temperature alloys, and cast iron is required. Primary workpiece material codes include H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering hardened materials, cast iron, general steels, non-ferrous metals, carbon and alloy steels, and heat-resistant superalloys. The Isoturn series is commonly used in production turning cells where consistent tool life and predictable surface finish are critical. Installation suits both clamping and pin-lock style toolholders compatible with VNMG insert seats.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for VNMG-seat toolholders accepting a 0.2815 inch inscribed circle insert with clamp or pin holding. Compatible with toolholder systems designed for ISO 13399 compliant VNMG inserts in the Isoturn series.
This insert is installed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing any cutting insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's specified clamping procedure — do not overtighten the clamp screw. Inspect the insert seat and chip pocket for debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and runout.
