The ISCAR 5505156 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. This DCMT-style insert features a 55-degree diamond shape, a 0.25-inch (1/4 inch) inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch (0.0157-inch) corner radius. The insert is PVD-coated with TiAlN and TiN layers under the IC907 manufacturer grade, which is engineered for high-temperature cutting stability. The SM chip breaker geometry promotes positive rake cutting action and effective chip control. It is installed by machining professionals in production and job-shop environments using a screw-type insert holding method.
This insert is suited for turning a broad range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, high-temperature alloys, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and hardened materials, corresponding to ISO material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S. It belongs to the Isoturn series and is appropriate for light to moderate depth-of-cut applications, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.0980 inches. Typical applications include finishing and semi-finishing passes on shafts, flanges, and rotational components in aerospace, automotive, and general machining contexts.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement insert for ISCAR Isoturn series toolholders accepting DCMT-style inserts with a 0.25-inch inscribed circle and screw-type insert holding. Verify toolholder seat geometry and insert pocket dimensions before installation. Rated for ISO material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S workpiece materials.
This insert is installed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Before indexing or replacing the insert, bring the spindle to a full stop and follow lockout procedures per your machine tool safety protocols. Use the correct TORX or hex key for the insert clamping screw and ensure the insert pocket and seating surface are clean and free of chips before seating the new insert. Do not exceed the maximum recommended depth of cut for the insert geometry, and verify cutting parameters against the toolholder and machine specifications.
