The ISCAR 5505155 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TPMR style, designed for precision single-point turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. It carries the IC907 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN dual coating that resists heat and wear during continuous and interrupted cuts. The insert features a 60-degree triangular shape with a positive rake geometry, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/32-inch corner radius. With an insert length of 16.5 mm (0.6496 inches) and a thickness of 0.1248 inches, the 5505155 fits standard TPMR-style clamp-style toolholders. Machinists and tool-and-die technicians working with difficult-to-machine alloys will find this insert well-suited to demanding turning cycles.
This insert is rated for use on a broad range of workpiece materials including high-temperature alloys and superalloys (H), stainless steel (M), and heat-resistant materials (S), as well as cast iron (K), non-ferrous metals (N), and carbon and alloy steels (P). It belongs to the Isoturn series and is intended for turning applications where consistent edge geometry and reliable chip control are required across material groups. Typical applications include finish and semi-finish turning on production machining centers. The R chip breaker geometry aids in chip management at moderate feed rates and depths of cut up to 4.00 mm (0.1575 inches).
Designed for use with TPMR-style clamp-style toolholders conforming to standard insert size code 322. Compatible with tooling systems accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle triangular insert with a clearance code of P and tolerance code M. Verified material grade compatibility includes C7 and C8 carbide classifications per ISO designation.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician using the appropriate clamp screw and torx or hex key for the toolholder style. Ensure the machine spindle is stopped and the toolholder is secured in the turret before seating or indexing the insert. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before installation, as contamination can cause insert rocking and premature edge failure. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque specifications and starting cut parameters before adjusting feeds and depths.
