The ISCAR 5505037 is a carbide replaceable tip drill designed for high-productivity hole-making in demanding metalworking applications. Built to the IDI-SG series standard, it accepts a solid carbide insert tip in the SG geometry secured by a twist-style insert holding method. The cutting diameter measures 0.634 inches with a 140-degree included drill point angle and a thinned point for reduced thrust and improved self-centering. The IC908 grade carbide substrate uses a submicron grain structure with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, delivering high hardness and thermal resistance at the cutting edge. A slow spiral, two-flute design aids chip evacuation in a wide range of workpiece materials. Installation and tip replacement are performed by machining technicians.
This replaceable tip drill is intended for general-purpose drilling operations on CNC machining centers and drill presses where quick tip changes reduce tooling downtime. Primary workpiece material compatibility covers Steel, Stainless Steel, Cast Iron, Superalloys, Titanium, and Hard Material, corresponding to ISO material groups P, M, K, S, and H. The tool conforms to ISO 13399 tooling data standards. It is suited for both job shop environments and production floor applications requiring consistent hole quality across varied material types.
Designed as an OEM replaceable tip for ISCAR IDI-SG series drill bodies accepting insert seat size 16, ISO number IDI 161-SG. Compatible with primary workpiece materials including Steel, Stainless Steel, Cast Iron, Superalloys, Titanium, and Hard Material (ISO groups P, M, K, S, H).
Tip replacement and installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine powered off and locked out per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate ISCAR torque key for the twist-style insert seat to ensure proper seating without over-torquing the insert. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or damage before installing a new tip. Follow the tool manufacturer documentation for recommended speeds and feeds by workpiece material grade.
