The ISCAR 5505012 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This DCMT-style insert carries the IC907 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN multilayer coating that extends tool life across a broad range of workpiece materials. The 55-degree diamond insert shape provides a sharp, positive rake geometry suited for finishing and semi-finishing cuts. At 0.4567 inches in length with a 0.3748-inch inscribed circle diameter and a 0.0079-inch corner radius, this insert delivers tight tolerances consistent with the M tolerance class under ISO 13399.
The 5505012 is intended for use in production turning environments where consistent surface finish and dimensional accuracy are required. It is compatible with primary workpiece material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering hardened steels, cast irons, general steels, non-ferrous materials, stainless steels, and superalloys. The SM chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation during finishing passes. Screw-type insert holding makes this part a direct fit into DCMT-compatible toolholders used in standard CNC turning applications. It is sold individually but carries a minimum order quantity of 10 units.

Material grades C7 and C8 apply per manufacturer specification. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and screw specifications prior to installation.
Installation of turning inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine in a full stop and lockout-tagout procedures applied. Use the correct torx or hex key driver specified for the clamping screw to seat the insert firmly in the pocket without overtightening the screw. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Replace the insert at the first sign of edge wear or chipping to maintain dimensional accuracy and prevent workpiece damage.
