The ISCAR 5504994 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill insert designed for use in IDI-SG series drill bodies. Manufactured to IC908 submicron grade and finished with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, this insert delivers consistent cutting performance across a range of demanding workpiece materials. The 0.457-inch cutting diameter, 140-degree included angle, and web-thinned point geometry reduce entry forces and improve chip evacuation. Two spiral flutes in a slow-spiral configuration support stable chip flow during general-purpose drilling operations. Licensed machinists and toolroom technicians install this insert as part of a modular drill system.
This replaceable tip insert is suited for drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. The ISO material codes covered are P, M, K, S, and H, making it applicable to a wide range of ferrous and difficult-to-machine workpieces in both production and job-shop environments. It conforms to ISO 13399 standards and fits the IDI-SG insert seat size 11 platform. Typical applications include through-hole and blind-hole drilling in general machining operations.
Designed for use with ISCAR IDI-SG series modular drill bodies accepting insert seat size 11. ISO number IDI 116-SG. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials (ISO codes P, M, K, S, H).
This insert is installed and removed by trained machinists or toolroom technicians using the appropriate ISCAR torque key for the IDI-SG platform. Always ensure the drill body is fully secured in the spindle and the machine is powered down before changing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket seat for debris or damage before seating the new tip. Follow the machine tool manufacturer and ISCAR tooling assembly guidelines for proper clamping torque.
