The ISCAR 5504890 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNGG 432-PP configuration, designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes. It carries an IC907 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN coating for wear resistance and extended tool life at elevated cutting temperatures. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape (Shape Code C), a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/32-inch (0.0315-inch) corner radius. At 12.9 mm (0.5079 inches) in length and 3/16-inch (0.1874-inch) thickness, it fits standard CNGG toolholders using clamp or pin holding methods. It is part of the ISCAR Isoturn series and conforms to ISO 13399 standards.
This insert is suited for turning applications across a broad range of workpiece materials, including steel, stainless steel, high-temperature alloys, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and hardened materials, as indicated by primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. The PP chip breaker geometry supports positive rake cutting, making it effective in finishing and semi-finishing passes where chip control and surface finish are critical. The maximum depth of cut is 4.00 mm (0.157 inches). It is used in production turning environments by machinists and tooling specialists working on manual or CNC turning centers.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for CNGG 432-PP style toolholders within the ISCAR Isoturn series. Suitable for use with workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians on CNC or manual turning centers. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing the insert. Ensure the insert pocket and seating surface are clean and free of chips before clamping. Use the appropriate torque wrench per the toolholder manufacturer's specifications when tightening the clamp screw — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide insert.
