The ISCAR 5504123 is a cermet turning insert in the WNMG style, designed for single-point turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. Manufactured under the Isoturn series, this insert features a TiCN and TiN coating applied via PVD process, delivering a wear-resistant surface suited for finishing and semi-finishing cuts. The 80-degree trigon shape provides two usable cutting edges per insert. Key dimensions include a 0.375-inch inscribed circle, a 0.0079-inch corner radius, and an insert length of 0.2567 inches (6.52 mm) with a thickness of 0.156 inches. This insert is rated for a maximum depth of cut of 0.0591 inches (1.50 mm). It is installed and indexed by licensed machinists and CNC operators.
This insert is intended for turning stainless steel and carbon steel workpieces in production machining environments, including both residential-shop and industrial settings. The SF chip breaker geometry is optimized for light finishing passes where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are the priority. Holding is accomplished via clamp and pin method, making it compatible with standard WNMG toolholders. The ISO workpiece material codes M and P confirm suitability for stainless and general steel stock. Typical applications include shaft turning, facing, and contour work where consistent chip control and edge wear resistance are required.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for WNMG-style toolholders accepting the 3-0 insert size code. Compatible with standard clamp-and-pin WNMG toolholder systems. Verify toolholder seat geometry and clamping system before installation.
Indexing and replacement of turning inserts should be performed by qualified machinists with the machine powered off, spindle locked, and all axes at a safe position. Use the appropriate torque wrench and seating tool per the toolholder manufacturer instructions when securing the clamp and pin. Do not attempt to regrind cermet inserts. Follow shop safety practices and applicable OSHA machine guarding standards when servicing lathe tooling.
