The ISCAR 3398972 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in metalworking and machining applications. It features a 1/2 inch diameter cutting edge with a 1-1/2 inch length of cut and a 6 inch overall length. The 3-flute geometry combined with a 45-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. A Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coating adds surface hardness and reduces friction, extending tool life in demanding cuts. The submicron carbide grade provides toughness and wear resistance. This end mill is a single-end tool with a right-hand cutting and flute direction, suited for CNC machining centers and manual mills operated by experienced machinists.
This end mill is suited for profiling, slotting, and peripheral milling operations in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where a sharp, close-tolerance corner is required. The centercutting capability allows plunge entry directly into the workpiece. The variable index design helps reduce harmonic vibration during long cuts, making it appropriate for both roughing and finishing passes in production and job-shop environments. Its 1/2 inch shank diameter fits standard ER and end mill holders commonly found on vertical machining centers.
Designed as an OEM-style solid carbide square end mill compatible with standard 1/2 inch end mill holders, collet chucks, and ER-style toolholders used on vertical machining centers and CNC mills.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool manufacturer guidelines. Ensure the spindle is fully powered down and the tool changer is in a safe state before changing tooling. Confirm the shank is fully seated in the holder to the minimum insertion depth before tightening. Inspect the cutting edges for chips or damage before each use, and do not exceed the tool manufacturer recommended speeds and feeds for the workpiece material.
