The ISCAR 3398649 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill from the ECI-5-VF series, designed for demanding metal removal in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. It features a 1/2-inch diameter, a 7/8-inch length of cut, and a 6-inch overall length, with a 1/2-inch straight cylindrical shank held to h6 tolerance. The submicron carbide substrate is coated with AlTiCrSiN via PVD process, delivering high wear resistance and thermal stability at elevated cutting speeds. Five flutes with a variable index and spiral flute geometry support both roughing and finishing operations in a single tool. This end mill is intended for use in CNC machining centers by skilled machinists and tooling specialists working in high-performance production environments.
The 3398649 fits short-reach applications while the extended reach length of 4.125 inches accommodates deeper pockets and complex part geometries. It is well suited for milling hardened and difficult-to-cut workpiece materials including P, M, K, S, and H material grades as classified by ISO cutting material standards. The right-hand flute direction and right-hand cutting direction are standard for conventional spindle configurations. Normal pitch geometry and spiral flute design contribute to stable chip evacuation across a range of feed and speed conditions. This end mill mounts directly in a compatible toolholder and is sold as a single unit.
Designed for use with standard toolholders accepting a 1/2-inch straight cylindrical shank. Suitable for CNC machining centers running workpiece materials classified as ISO P, M, K, S, and H including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. Refer to the ISCAR ECI-5-VF series catalog number ECI-5 .5-.88/4.13CVF6 for full application pairing guidance.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician familiar with CNC toolholder setup procedures. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the controller is in a safe state before inserting or removing the end mill. Seat the shank fully into the toolholder bore and torque the retention mechanism according to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a production cut, particularly when working with hard or abrasive workpiece materials where tool deflection tolerances are tight.
