The IRWIN IWAX3008 is a ship auger bit from the IRWIN SPEEDBOR SUPREME series, designed for boring large, clean holes through framing lumber, timbers, and rough construction material. Built from high-speed steel with an oxide coating, this bit handles the demands of repetitive drilling in wood-framing, rough-in plumbing, and electrical rough-in work. The 0.75 inch cutting diameter and 15 inch flute length allow it to bore deep holes in a single pass, reducing repositioning time on the job. The 3-inch hex shank seats securely in compatible drill chucks and bit extensions. At 18 inches overall length and 1.09 pounds, it is sized for production framing and utility drilling tasks performed by electricians, plumbers, and carpenters.
This ship auger bit is suited for residential and light commercial construction applications where through-boring of structural members is required. Typical uses include running conduit, pipe, or wire through floor joists, wall plates, and beams. The standard point geometry allows for accurate starts on flat or angled surfaces without pre-drilling a pilot hole. It is most commonly used with a right-angle drill or heavy-duty corded drill in tight framing bays where a straight drill cannot fit.
Designed as an OEM-style ship auger bit compatible with right-angle drills, heavy-duty corded drills, and any drill chuck or bit extension accepting a 3-inch hex shank.
This bit is installed by electricians, plumbers, and carpenters during the rough-in phase of construction. Secure the hex shank fully into the chuck before drilling and verify the bit is seated before applying torque. Always power down and disconnect the drill before changing bits. When boring near structural load paths, consult applicable building codes for allowable hole placement in joists and beams.
