The IRWIN IR63904 is a high speed steel jobber-length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal, wood, and plastic. The 1/16 inch diameter bit features a titanium nitride (TiN) coating that increases surface hardness to 80 HRC, reducing friction and extending cutting life compared to uncoated HSS bits. The 135-degree split point tip allows self-centering entry and requires no center punch on most workpieces. Overall length is 1.875 inches with a 0.875 inch flute length. This bit is sold individually and is used by electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians, and general tradespeople for pilot holes, sheet metal work, and precision small-diameter drilling.
The IR63904 fits standard drill chucks and is appropriate for hand-held power drills, drill presses, and right-angle drill attachments commonly used in residential and light commercial trade work. The jobber-length configuration provides a practical balance of rigidity and reach for typical on-site drilling tasks. At 1/16 inch diameter, this bit is well suited for pilot hole applications in sheet metal, conduit, copper pipe flanges, and similar thin-material trade work where a small, accurate starting hole is required.
Designed as a standard jobber-length drill bit compatible with any 3-jaw or keyless drill chuck that accepts a 1/16 inch shank, including hand-held power drills and bench-mounted drill presses.
Install and remove drill bits only with the tool unpowered and the chuck fully released. Secure the workpiece before drilling to prevent movement, especially at small diameters where bit deflection and breakage risk increases. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling ferrous metals to preserve coating life and reduce heat buildup. Dispose of worn bits in accordance with local sharps and metal-waste handling practices.
