The IRWIN INDUSTRIAL TOOL CO 8134 is a 3/8 inches x 16 National Coarse (NC) fractional hand tap made from carbon steel. It is designed for routine maintenance and repair work where high-accuracy tolerance threads are not critical. The straight flutes are ground to allow rapid chip removal, making threading operations faster and more consistent. This tap produces a Class 2B thread fit and is suited for use across a variety of materials. A 5/16 inches drill bit is required for the pilot hole. Sold in a package of 3 taps per unit.
This tap is intended for hand threading applications in maintenance, repair, and rethreading tasks across industrial, commercial, and general trade settings. It is well suited for situations where a replacement or repaired thread needs to meet standard Class 2B fit requirements without requiring precision-grade tolerances. Electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians, and general maintenance professionals commonly keep NC taps of this size on hand for fastener repair work on steel, aluminum, and similar materials.
Designed as a standard fractional hand tap for 3/8 inches x 16 National Coarse threaded fastener applications in general maintenance and repair work across a wide range of base materials.
Drill the pilot hole to 5/16 inches before tapping. Apply a suitable cutting fluid or tapping oil to reduce friction and extend tap life. Turn the tap slowly by hand using a tap wrench, backing off a partial turn periodically to break chips. Never force the tap; excessive torque can cause breakage, particularly in harder materials.
