The IRWIN INDUSTRIAL TOOL CO 49904 is a 1/4 inch solid center auger bit engineered for boring clean, accurate holes in wood. The solid center construction provides extra rigidity during the cut, reducing flex and deflection in demanding applications. Wide lands keep the bit tracking straight through the bore, while flutes ground behind the lands channel chips inward and away from the outside diameter. The result is a faster, cleaner cut with less blowout. A single spur cutting edge scribes the circumference before the main cutters engage, producing a smooth, defined hole wall. A coarse screw point draws the bit into hard and soft woods quickly without requiring excessive feed pressure. Full-length heat treatment guards against bending and strengthens the twist at the highest-stress zone.
The 49904 is suited for residential and light commercial rough-in and finish carpentry work where a clean, consistent 1/4 inch bore is required. Electricians routing low-voltage wiring through studs and joists, plumbers boring drain or supply lines, and general carpenters fitting dowels or running conduit through wood framing will find this bit appropriate for their workflow. The 4.5 inch twist length and 7.5 inch overall length give adequate reach for single-stud boring without requiring an extension. Each unit is individually pouched and sold as part of a package quantity of 6.
Designed as an OEM-style solid center auger bit for use with standard brace-style or power-drill chuck systems accepting 1/4 inch auger shanks.
Install the bit securely in a compatible brace or power drill chuck before use. Ensure the workpiece is clamped or otherwise stabilized before boring to prevent movement that can deflect the bit or cause injury. Back the bit out periodically on deep bores to clear chips and reduce heat buildup. Follow applicable safety standards for hand and power tool operation when working in occupied or energized structures.
