The IRWIN 9738 is a hex rethreading die designed to restore damaged or corroded external metric threads without removing the fastener from the assembly. It carries an M10x1 thread profile with a right-hand direction, conforming to the Metric Special thread standard. The die features a 1-inch hex body that seats securely in a standard rethreading die holder or wrench. Manufactured from carbon steel, it delivers the hardness needed to clean and recut threads on steel bolts, studs, and rods encountered in mechanical and industrial service work. Maintenance technicians, machinists, and field mechanics reach for this tool when a damaged thread needs to be restored to spec rather than replaced.
This rethreading die is suited for repair work on M10 fine-pitch threaded fasteners in automotive, equipment maintenance, and light industrial applications. It is used wherever an M10x1 external thread has been cross-threaded, rusted, or otherwise damaged and must be brought back to serviceable condition. The compact hex body fits within tight clearances, making it practical for both bench use and field repair scenarios. Sold individually, it can supplement an existing rethreading set or serve as a direct replacement for a worn or missing die.
Designed for use on M10x1 right-hand external threads conforming to the Metric Special thread standard. Compatible with standard 1-inch hex rethreading die holders and wrenches.
This die is installed and operated by a qualified machinist or mechanic using a compatible die holder or adjustable wrench sized for a 1-inch hex. Before use, clean loose debris and surface rust from the damaged thread to reduce die wear. Apply cutting oil to the thread and die before turning to improve cutting action and extend die life. Never force the die if it binds — back off, clear chips, reapply oil, and continue.
