The IRWIN 9445 is a hex rethreading die designed to restore damaged or corroded external threads on fasteners and threaded rod. It is sized for 1/2-20 UNF right-hand threads and fits a standard 1-inch hex driver or wrench for easy field use. The die is machined from carbon steel, providing the hardness needed to cut through rust, burrs, and thread deformation on bolts, studs, and similar fasteners. Rethreading dies like this one are a standard tool for maintenance mechanics, plumbers, HVAC technicians, and electricians who regularly encounter fastener damage during service calls.
This die is suited for both shop and field repair work where restoring thread integrity on existing hardware is more practical than full fastener replacement. It is appropriate for use on 1/2-20 UNF threaded fasteners found in mechanical assemblies, equipment frames, pipe fittings, and similar applications. The right-hand thread configuration covers the vast majority of standard fastener installations encountered in residential and light commercial service work.
Designed for rethreading 1/2-20 UNF right-hand external threads. Compatible with standard 1-inch hex die holders and rethreading stocks.
Rethreading dies are used by mechanics and trade professionals to clean and restore external threads without full fastener replacement. Before use, de-energize or shut down any equipment containing the fastener being serviced. Apply cutting oil to the die and the fastener to reduce friction and extend die life. Advance the die slowly in short increments, backing off periodically to clear cuttings and prevent binding.
