The IRWIN 88815 is a Speedbor wood boring bit designed for drilling fast, rough, or clean and exact holes in wood. The bit features a 15/16-inch cutting diameter, a 6-inch overall length, and a 1/4-inch shank for secure chuck retention. It is built for use with standard power drills and is suited to framing, rough-in, and finish carpentry applications. Electricians, plumbers, and general contractors reach for this bit when running wire or pipe through wood studs and joists. The 1/4-inch shank accommodates quick-change chuck systems common on cordless and corded drills.
The 88815 is appropriate for residential and light commercial rough-in work where clean entry and exit holes are required. Its geometry handles both through-drilling and shallow boring tasks in dimensional lumber, engineered wood, and similar materials. Tradespeople running conduit, low-voltage cabling, or supply lines through framed walls will find the 15/16-inch diameter well-suited to common rough-in clearances.
Designed as an OEM-style wood boring bit compatible with standard 3-jaw and quick-change drill chucks accepting a 1/4-inch shank, for use in corded or cordless power drills.
This bit is installed and used by electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians, and carpenters performing rough-in drilling. Secure the bit firmly in the chuck before use and confirm the workpiece is clamped or otherwise stabilized. When drilling through framing near electrical conductors or gas lines, follow applicable NEC, IFGC, or IPC clearance requirements. Withdraw the bit periodically during deep bores to clear chips and reduce heat buildup.
