The IRWIN 6536 is a hex rethreading die designed to restore damaged or corroded external threads to their original specification. It cuts a 3/8-24 UNF right-hand thread profile and fits a 1-inch hex driver or wrench for torque application. The die is manufactured from carbon steel, providing the hardness needed to clean and recut metal fastener threads on bolts, studs, and threaded rod. Plumbers, pipefitters, electricians, and HVAC technicians use rethreading dies when field-damaged fasteners need to be salvaged rather than replaced. The hex body allows use with a standard tap and die wrench or an adjustable wrench.
This die is suited for maintenance and repair work on threaded fasteners in mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical applications. The 3/8-24 UNF thread standard is common in fine-thread fasteners found in equipment assemblies, mounting hardware, and service panels. It is appropriate for both shop bench work and field service calls where a full die stock set may not be practical to carry.
Designed as an OEM-style rethreading die for restoring 3/8-24 UNF right-hand external threads on bolts, studs, and threaded rod in trade and mechanical service applications.
Rethreading dies are used by licensed tradespeople and mechanics to restore damaged external threads. Before use, de-energize or shut down any equipment associated with the fastener being serviced. Apply cutting oil to the die and the workpiece to reduce heat and improve thread quality. Always chase threads slowly and back off periodically to clear chips and prevent die binding.
