The IRWIN 63130 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for production drilling in metal, hardened steel, stainless steel, and other demanding materials. Built from M35 high-speed steel with 5% cobalt content, the bit maintains cutting edge hardness at elevated temperatures generated during high-torque drilling. The 135-degree split point reduces walking and breakthrough burring, allowing faster penetration without a center punch on most surfaces. At 15/32 inch in diameter with a 5.75-inch overall length and a 4.3125-inch flute, this bit suits jobber-length applications where reach and chip evacuation balance are both priorities. Intended for industrial and trade end users.
This bit is suited for metalworking applications in fabrication shops, mechanical contractor work, and industrial maintenance settings. Common use cases include drilling pilot and clearance holes in structural steel, pipe fittings, and equipment housings. The straight shank fits standard three-jaw drill chucks on corded drills, drill presses, and magnetic base drills. The cobalt alloy composition makes it particularly effective when cutting through work-hardening alloys such as stainless steel or high-nickel materials where standard HSS bits dull quickly.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use bit for standard three-jaw drill chucks accepting straight-shank tooling in the 15/32 inch diameter range.
Secure the straight shank firmly in the drill chuck before operation and verify runout is within acceptable limits on a drill press before cutting. Use appropriate cutting fluid or oil when drilling ferrous metals to manage heat buildup and extend bit life. Wear ANSI-rated eye protection during all drilling operations. Follow applicable workplace safety standards and equipment manufacturer guidelines for spindle speed selection based on material and diameter.
