The IRWIN 63116 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit designed for drilling through steel, cast iron, and other ferrous materials. It measures 0.25 inches in diameter with an overall length of 4 inches and a flute length of 2.75 inches. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on contact, allowing the bit to begin cutting without a center punch in most applications. The bright, uncoated finish is standard for cobalt tooling used in general-purpose and maintenance drilling. Two regular spiral flutes clear chips efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole operations. Licensed tradespeople and maintenance technicians working with metal fabrication or mechanical systems are the primary users.
This bit is suited for drilling steel and cast iron in residential and commercial maintenance, light fabrication, and mechanical repair applications. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard three-jaw drill chucks on corded and cordless drills as well as drill presses. The 11xD flute-to-diameter ratio provides adequate reach for typical jobber-length applications. It is a general-purpose grade bit appropriate for production maintenance environments where cobalt material provides better heat resistance than standard high-speed steel.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber drill for use in standard three-jaw drill chucks accepting a 0.25-inch straight shank. Primary workpiece materials are steel and cast iron per Series 631 application data.
This bit is installed and operated by machinists, maintenance technicians, and mechanical tradespeople using a hand drill or drill press. Secure the straight shank firmly in the chuck before operation and verify chuck key is removed before starting the tool. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling ferrous metals to extend bit life and improve hole quality. Wear appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece to prevent rotation during drilling.
