The IRWIN 63104 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in ferrous metals, including steel and cast iron. Built from M35 cobalt steel, it handles the heat and abrasion that standard HSS bits cannot. The 135-degree split point self-centers on contact, reducing walking and eliminating the need for a center punch on most applications. At 1/16 inch (0.0625 inches) in diameter with a 1-7/8 inch overall length, this bit fits standard drill chucks and is suited for production maintenance, fabrication shops, and field service work where small-diameter, precise hole entry matters.
This bit is intended for drilling steel, cast iron, and similarly hard ferrous materials in residential and commercial maintenance, industrial fabrication, and trade service environments. Its small 1/16 inch diameter makes it common in HVAC sheet metal work, electrical conduit and panel applications, and plumbing rough-in tasks where pilot holes or small clearance holes are required. The right-hand spiral flute configuration is compatible with standard drill drivers, drill presses, and magnetic base drills.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber drill bit for use in standard drill chucks accepting a 1/16 inch straight shank. Suitable for drilling steel and cast iron workpieces as part of the IRWIN Series 631 cobalt drill line.
Installation of this drill bit is performed by licensed tradespeople or qualified maintenance technicians using a drill press, hand drill, or magnetic base drill. Secure the straight shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify the chuck key is removed prior to powering the tool. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling deep holes in hardened steel to extend bit life, even though this bit does not support through-coolant delivery. Follow shop safety practices including eye protection and secure workpiece fixturing.
