The IRWIN 53706 is a 7-piece spiral flute screw extractor and drill set designed to remove damaged, broken, or seized fasteners from threaded assemblies. The set includes one 13/32-inch drill bit and six spiral flute screw extractors sized 1 through 6, covering a screw size range of 5/8 to 7/8 inches in imperial sizing and M16 to M22 in metric. Spiral flute extractors bite into the fastener as they turn, increasing grip under torque load. This set is used by HVAC technicians, plumbers, electricians, and general trade professionals who encounter broken bolts and stripped screws in the field.
The 53706 is suited for residential and light commercial service work where fastener removal is a routine part of equipment teardown and repair. It handles both inch-series fasteners from 5/8 to 7/8 inches and metric fasteners from M16 to M22, as well as 3/8 BSP and 3/8 NPT threaded fittings. Typical applications include removing sheared equipment mounting bolts, stripped pipe fittings, and broken machine screws in HVAC units, pumps, panels, and plumbing assemblies. The included drill bit is sized to pilot the extraction hole for the corresponding extractor set.
Designed for use on fasteners sized 5/8 to 7/8 inches (imperial), M16 to M22 (metric), and 3/8 BSP and 3/8 NPT threaded pipe fittings, as specified by the manufacturer.
Screw extractor work is performed by qualified trade professionals using a drill press or hand drill. Before beginning extraction, de-energize any electrical equipment and shut off fluid or gas supply to the system being serviced. Center-punch the broken fastener before drilling the pilot hole to prevent bit walking. Apply extraction torque gradually and avoid excessive force, which can snap the extractor and complicate removal further.
