The IRWIN 53701 is a spiral flute screw extractor and drill set designed for removing broken, stripped, or seized screws in metal, wood, and plastic. The set covers screw sizes from 3/32 to 5/32 inches, making it suitable for fasteners in the number 3 through number 6 range as well as M2.5 through M4 metric screws. Each package includes one 5/64-inch drill bit and six spiral flute screw extractors numbered 1 through 6. Licensed HVAC techs, plumbers, electricians, and general trade professionals use tools like these during equipment service and repair to back out fasteners that can no longer be driven conventionally.
This extractor set is appropriate for light-duty fastener removal tasks encountered during residential and commercial service work. Typical applications include removing stripped screws from access panels, junction boxes, pipe flanges, and equipment enclosures. The spiral flute design bites into the damaged fastener as reverse torque is applied, drawing the extractor deeper for a more secure grip. The included drill bit is sized to create the proper pilot hole before the extractor is seated.
Designed for use with number 3 to number 6 screws in the 3/32 to 5/32 inch range and M2.5 to M4 metric screws. Suitable for use with any standard reversible drill or brace capable of left-hand rotation.
A licensed or experienced trade professional should use a reversible drill set to left-hand (counterclockwise) rotation when operating screw extractors. Before beginning, de-energize or shut off the equipment being serviced per applicable NEC or OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Use the included pilot drill bit to create a centered pilot hole in the damaged fastener before inserting the extractor. Apply steady, controlled pressure to avoid snapping the extractor inside the fastener.
