The IRWIN INDUSTRIAL TOOL CO 49908 is a solid center auger bit designed for boring clean, accurate holes in wood. The solid center construction adds rigidity through the full length of the bit, reducing deflection during heavy-duty boring applications. At 1/2 inch in diameter with a 7-1/2 inch overall length and a 4-1/2 inch twist length, this bit is suited for through-hole and deep-hole work in framing, rough carpentry, and trade installation tasks. A coarse screw point pulls the bit into the material for fast starts in both hard and soft woods. Full-length heat treatment strengthens the twist at the highest-stress zone, guarding against bending under load.
The 49908 is intended for use by electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians, and carpenters who need to bore clean holes through wood framing, joists, and studs during rough-in work. The single spur cutting edge scribes the circumference of the hole before the main cutting edge engages, producing a cleaner finish on the hole wall. Wide lands keep the bit tracking straight through the bore. Flutes are ground behind the lands to channel chips toward the inside of the bit and away from the outer diameter, reducing friction and improving cut speed. Packaged in a pouch for jobsite storage.
Designed for use in standard 1/2 inch auger bit chucks and brace-style drill applications for boring through hard and soft wood materials.
This bit is installed and operated by carpenters, electricians, plumbers, and other trade professionals performing wood boring during rough-in and framing work. Ensure the bit is fully seated and secured in the chuck before operation. Keep work material properly supported to prevent kickback or splitting on breakthrough. Inspect the bit before each use for signs of bending, dulling, or heat damage and replace if compromised.
