The IRWIN INDUSTRIAL TOOL CO 49617 is a 7/16-inch brad point drill bit sold in a 3-pack, precision ground for clean, accurate drilling in wood-based materials. The brad point tip provides exact hole positioning on contact, eliminating the bit walking common with standard twist bits. Spur cutting edges at the outer diameter shear wood fibers cleanly before the main flutes remove material, reducing tear-out and splintering on both entry and exit faces. Wide flutes maintain a fast, continuous chip flow to keep the cutting edge clear and prevent heat buildup during extended use. At 0.48 pounds for the pack, these bits are a lightweight addition to any woodworking or finish-carpentry tool kit.
These bits are suited for residential and light commercial woodworking applications including furniture making, doweling, and cabinetry where hole diameter accuracy and surface finish quality are critical. The 5-19/32-inch overall length and 3-11/16-inch twist length provide adequate depth capacity for through-holes in standard lumber and panel stock. Each bit comes pouched for individual storage and protection of the precision-ground cutting edges. Woodworkers, cabinetmakers, and finish carpenters will find the 3-pack quantity practical for job-site use or shop stocking.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or stock bit for use in standard corded or cordless drill drivers and drill presses fitted with a 3/8-inch or 1/2-inch chuck, intended for use in wood, wood composites, and similar soft materials.
Brad point bits are installed and operated by qualified woodworkers or carpenters using a corded or cordless drill driver or drill press. Secure the bit fully in the chuck and verify it runs true before drilling. Use appropriate clamping to stabilize the workpiece and back the material with scrap stock to minimize exit-face splintering. Do not use these bits on metal, masonry, or other hard materials for which they are not designed.
